The role of the leadership team includes

  • Leadership of the GAC and associated groups as agreed by the GAC.
  • Strategic liaison with ICANN; other ICANN advisory committees and supporting organisations; and with other relevant stakeholders.
  • Prioritising the work of ACIG and ICANN staff in support of GAC activities.

GAC Chair

 Mr. Thomas Schneider - Switzerland

Mr Thomas Schneider is the Chair of ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee.  He also is the GAC's liaison to the ICANN Board.

Thomas is the deputy director of international affairs and the international information society coordinator at the Swiss Federal Office of Communication (OFCOM) in the Swiss Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC).

He is an expert in internet governance and in information society issues, in particular media/new media regulation, human rights and consumer protection. He has been coordinating the Swiss activities and positions related to the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and internet governance issues since 2003.

Thomas represents the Swiss government in a number of international fora (ICANN/GAC, UN General Assembly, UN CSTD, ITU, Council of Europe, OSCE, UNESCO, IGF, EuroDIG, etc.). In his many years of experience in these issues, he has acted as chair, co- and vice-chair of number of European and international committees and expert groups related to internet governance and information  society.

Vice Chairs

 Dr. Olga Cavalli - Argentina

Dr. Olga Cavalli is an electrical and electronics engineer and has experience in telecommunication,  project management, market research, competitive analysis, public policy and regulations. She holds many positions, including high- level work with ICANN, the South School of Internet Governance, eLAC, higher education, and  elsewhere.  

Dr.Cavalli is the President of the Women in Technology and Business Forum and the founder of

the National Centre of Engineers' Women Engineers for Development Commission.

 Ms. Gema Campillos - Spain

Ms Gema M. Campillos González has a law degree and works for Tier A of the Spanish Central Government, as Deputy Director within the Ministry in charge of electronic communications and Information Society.

Ms Campillos González runs a team dealing with trust services for electronic transactions, e-commerce, Internet Governance, among other related issues.

 Mr. Henri Kassen - Namibia

Mr Henri Kassen serves as Director for ICT Development in the Namibian Ministry of ICT responsible for ICT promotion, development and growth in terms of policy development and infrastructure development oversight.

Mr Kassen coordinates Internet development issues in Namibia and headed his country’s delegation to the International Telecommunications Union Plenipotentiary conferences in 2006 and  2012.

Mr Kassen has legal qualifications with extensive  administrative, labour and ICT experience covering twenty-seven years.

 Mr. Wanawit Ahkuputra - Thailand

Mr Wanawit Ahkuputra is the Deputy Executive Director of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency. He is also Head of Delegation to the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business; Chairman of the Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (AFACT); Vice President of ATPER - Association of Thai Professionals in Europe; and Vice Chair of the Asia PKI Consortium.

 Mr. Ihsan Durdu - Turkey

Mr Ihsan Durdu is an Advisor to the Minister of Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Communications.

Mr Durdu attended Advisory Groups at Cross-border Internet's 2nd Meeting as the representative of  Turkey. He also attended the Forum on Africa 2010 as a representative of Turkey
